Power Industry Support, LLC is actively recruiting a Operations Manager for the Plainfield Renewable Energy Center located in Plainfield, CT. The facility is a 37.5 NMW biomass fired power plant with a fluidized bed.
We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager with a solid background in and exposure to biomass fuel or solid fuel operations.
Salary Range: Greater than $125K+

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Operations Manager is responsible for the effective, efficient and safe operation of all power plant systems and equipment. The Operations Manager plans, budgets, schedules, and supervises all operating activity and operations staff at the plant. It is also the responsibility of the Operations Manager to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory environmental and safety programs. The Operations Manager works closely with plant staff to develop and maintain a high- quality work environment to achieve plant safety, production, revenue and cost targets.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Administer plant policies, procedures, and practices in support of expected performance.
- Ensure operations staff compliance with Administrative and Safety Instructions.
- Determine work plans and resources necessary to achieve operational targets; prepare operations budget estimates and participate in plant budget preparation process; control operational expenses to achieve approved budgets.
- Coordinate daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal, and yearly production schedules with contracted power companies.
- Plan, schedule, direct, and supervise daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal operating work assignments of employees including, but not limited to, ash removal, fuel delivery, water supply, steam generation, electric generation, and pollution control systems and equipment.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and communicate breakdown or upset conditions of plant systems and equipment to Maintenance; coordinate systems and equipment access for Maintenance.
- Develop and deliver plant systems and equipment training materials for Operations staff.
- Develop, maintain, and apply abnormal, routine, and emergency operating procedures and practices.
- Maintain plant systems, equipment, and grounds cleanliness.
- Promotes an attitude of safety awareness and sets a high standard for safety through adherence to all company safety policies and compliance with all site specific safety requirements and procedures.
- Takes a proactive role as a member of management to identify safety hazards and takes corrective actions as necessary to address.
- Assists with conducting safety meetings and training programs and participates in plant safety programs as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Operations Manager reports to the Plant Manager and may also take direction from other members of the Senior Management team. The Operations Department employees (Control Room Operators, Plant Equipment Operators, Fuel Handlers, etc.) report to the Operations Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS degree in a technical program such as engineering or science; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in and an extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, machines, equipment, materials and operating procedures of a steam electrical generating plant.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- While performing the duties of this position the Operations Manager will work both in an office setting and out in the plant.
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and will be exposed to heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, confined spaces, elevated areas, dirt, ash particles, and fuel particles.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs. and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods.
- Must be able to work on feet for extended periods.
- Requires the ability to climb stairs and ladders; must be able to work from heights.
- Exposure to vibration, moving mechanical parts and loud noises.
- Must be capable of using protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes, hearing protection, air masks, respirators, etc. in the performance of job duties.
- Working with hazardous materials may be required.
- Must be able to respond to emergency calls from the facility at any time of the day when not on site and may be required to report to the plant outside of normal business hours including weekends and holidays.
